If you’re looking for a professional chimney sweep in your area, congratulations! You’ve found one. If you’re looking for more, we have plenty to offer! Please read on!
So you want a chimney sweep? Great choice. We specialize in cleaning chimneys and making sure that the fireplaces and vents are safe while giving your home a thorough dusting. But as with any profession, there is always more to know if you want to do this right. So here are some of the basics:
- The best time for a visit is between fall and spring, but anytime is better than never.
We’d prefer to come see you while the weather is cooler, but it is possible to work with a fireplace during any season. A chimney that’s free of use-related debris and creosote is better all year long, though.
- You will be in charge of your home’s safety.
The responsibility for keeping everyone at a safe distance from the work area lies with you. Please keep furniture, curtains and anything else away from the fireplace during our visit – we don’t want to accidentally knock into anything that could fall off and get damaged or hurt anyone.
- Don’t be afraid to ask questions.
If you have any problems or concerns, don’t hesitate to let the chimney inspector know. We’ll do our best to answer them and address them, but we can’t help if we don’t know about them. We want every visit with you and your home to be as convenient and successful as possible!
- Expect a visit of about 1 hour.
Chimney sweeps are very busy folks. We have many jobs to do and we work only one spot at a time. Our average visit takes about 1 hour, our most time-consuming jobs can take up to an extra 2 hours. If this happens, we’ll let you know before we go over your house so that you’re able to get the best possible service on the spot.
- Your chimney sweep will tell you what they’re doing while they’re in your house.
You’ll notice an increase of smoke coming out of the chimney and a decrease in heat coming out of the vents on your roof during your appointment with us. This is a good thing! As your chimney sweep inspects the inside of your fireplace and the flue, you’ll notice smoke coming down. This is normal! You’re going to be seeing a lot of smoke over the next hour as we go over your fireplace and flue with our tools to ensure its safe operation. The more smoke you see coming down, the more thorough we’ll be. Don’t be surprised if you begin to feel warmth from your fireplace as well. While we work on it, there may be some heat loss. Our sweeps will let you know before starting so that they can compensate for it with extra insulation or water if needed.
- Your chimney sweep will tell you what your chimney needs.
At the end of our appointment, you’ll have a written estimate with all the work that your fireplace and flue need. Even if this work is not immediately needed, a good sweep will be able to give you an idea of what you’ll need to do in the future. These service estimates are often valid for as long as ONE YEAR! After that time, it’s important to have another evaluation done so that you know what furnace or fireplace changes may have occurred since then. If after that time there is no change in your heating system or fireplace operation, rescheduling with your chimney sweep should be an easy and fast process.
